Amman, Nov. 13 (Petra) -- The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has completed major maintenance works on the Royal Highway between Dlagha and Ras Al-Naqab in Ma’an Governorate, a vital route connecting northern and southern Jordan.
According to a statement issued Thursday, the project targeted the most damaged sections of the three-kilometer stretch between the Dlagha security checkpoint and Ras Al-Naqab.
Works included milling and repaving with a new six-centimeter asphalt layer, applying fresh lane markings, and installing ground reflectors along 13 kilometers to improve night visibility and ensure smoother, safer travel.
The Ministry said the project is part of a national program to maintain and modernize Jordan’s main highways, critical corridors for transportation, trade, and tourism. The Royal Highway, it added, plays a central role in linking major population centers and supporting economic activity in the southern region.
By investing in regular maintenance, the Ministry aims to enhance road safety, extend infrastructure lifespan, and reduce long-term repair costs.
The statement added that improving road networks helps boost local development, ease access to markets and services, and strengthen tourism and commercial transport, outcomes that directly support economic growth and improve citizens’ quality of life.
